A story: Two years ago, motherhood awakened in the designer new layers of intuition. A new cycle brought change, previously unknown forms of caring, a heightened sense of home. The baby was born in July, the month of the roe deer; she was born in Cancer, the sign of the crab, a sign of water, a sign ruled by the moon.

Sometimes, the child points up at the sparkly sky. The mother interprets her daughter’s gesture: she must be signaling the presence of a marvel, the stars, the moon. She then wonders: what if her child sensed the lit paths of ancient ancestors finding their way through the wilderness in the dark? What if her child sensed a magic auspiciousness in the round silver light? Will my girl remember her first impressions of the moon, –she thinks– when she looks at her reflection in a lake? When she dances on a clear night? When she feels lucky? When she celebrates?  

The daughter will experience rain, dew, the rhythm of tides hitting the rocks, the sight of a river moving calmly towards the sea –and through these she will learn the meaning of impermanence, the meaning of flow.

She will grow, transform, learn, shed skin –and through this she will know the meaning of time passing, the power of reemerging, of creativity and joy.

We created this short story to share with you the profound meaning and wonderful inspiration for our 11th collection.

This season, our creations are informed by the nature and symbolism of the moon. We drew inspiration from its endless power of renewal, from its capacity to empty and refill, from its loyal presence in the dark sky: a never ending, reliable beacon for animals and humankind. The muse of epic writers, poets, filmmakers, dancers and painters across ages, around the world. Mama Killa for the Incas, Chandra for the Hindi, Selene for the Greeks. The quiet witness of Buddha’s illumination, the symbol of Islam, the endless companion of all sorts of tribes. The mother of fertility, of waters on earth. The chalice, the two-faced, the carrier of the energy of regeneration. That which fills a child with awe in the night.

Each piece of our 11th collection expresses, in one way or another, the cyclic phases of the full, quarter, crescent, waning, waxing and new moons.

We created earrings from which hang semi-precious stones shaped as representations of each one of these phases and a set of ear cuffs/rings that imitate the moon’s growing and waning dimensions. You’ll find charms that carry both its two-faced nature and its protective aura, enhanced by the properties of obsidian, Andean opal, lapis lazuli and red carnelian. We offer you earrings reminiscent of the crowns of Thoth and Change’s, lunar deities of ancient Egyptian and Chinese cultures. Also, we also revisit the crescent hoop, one of our classic and most representative pieces and reinforce our beloved symbol of the spiral in a ring that brings to mind the creative energy in movement and the never-ending revolutions of the shiny/dark satellite rock.

As usual, each jewel is made of recycled sterling silver, a material which reflects both the regenerative capacity and the unique glow of the moon. Semi precious stones play a very important role in this collection featuring materials like Andean opal, lapis lazuli, and obsidian to reference water, its movement and the properties its said to acquire when placed under moonlight. You will find pieces with red carnelian and agate, chromatic reminders of the moon when tainted red during an eclipse. Of course, we also use pearls, which, for several cultures, are representations of the moon, an object with healing powers and capable of instilling its wearers with vigor and strength.
