Collection No.7 is a journey through different cultures and their ways of capturing fertility and creativity in symbols, these were mixed and reinterpreted into modern amulets. Aysha Bilgrami’s research begins in Colombia, in Putumayo with the women of the Inga community, experts in weaving symbols into the chumbe, a garment that protects their bellies.
Then her investigation took her to the Philippines, where she discovered the amulets Ling Ling-o and Dinumug, which bring fertility, creativity, prosperity and love. Finally, Aysha arrived to the spiral, a symbol of multiple meanings. For the Maori it represents a new life, stage of growth, and rebirth. For the Celts, the triskel or triple spiral suggests the fluidity of movement in time, and it balances each individual and prepares them for the creation of greater things.
All this fused is Collection No.7, a cultural journey where the rhythm of the energies is drawn in the silhouettes of each of the pieces.
